Terms of Service

Last updated:

TL;DR: Quarry sends your scam evidence to the institutions that can act on it. You decide whether and how to engage with scammers, and you take on the risks of doing so. Only submit real, lawfully obtained evidence: no fakes, no hacking. You give us the rights we need to share your evidence. We don’t promise any particular outcome.

These Terms are an agreement between you and Quarry Intelligence Inc. (“we”). “Quarry” means our website and services, or us, as the context requires. By creating an account, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

1. Eligibility and access

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • Quarry is currently offered to people in the United States.
  • Access is by invitation. We may grant, refuse, or revoke access at any time, for any reason.
  • If you use Quarry for an organization, you confirm you’re authorized to bind it. “You” then includes the organization, which is responsible for its personnel.
  • You’re responsible for keeping your login secure and for activity on your account.

2. What Quarry does and doesn’t do

We extract identifiers from your reports and share reports and identifiers with institutions that can act on scam activity, such as platforms, financial institutions, anti-fraud organizations, and law enforcement, as described in our Privacy Policy. Reports are provided by users; we may review them, but we don’t verify or endorse them, make them public, or decide whether anyone is a scammer. The institutions that receive reports make their own decisions. We don’t guarantee any institution will act, and we have no duty to act on any report. We don’t pay for reports, and nothing we display, including any figures, scores, or rankings, is a promise of payment or creates an obligation to pay you. Quarry isn’t a law enforcement agency or an agent of any institution, isn’t a substitute for reporting to police, and doesn’t recover lost funds. Figures we display are estimates. Nothing on Quarry is legal, financial, or safety advice.

3. Your activity is your own

Quarry doesn’t request, assign, supervise, or direct whether, when, how, or with whom you engage. Those decisions are yours. Guides, posts, and community tips, including ours, are education and opinion, not instructions or safety advice, and we don’t guarantee they’re safe or sufficient. Scores, statistics, or feedback we show about your reports describe what’s useful to institutions; they aren’t instructions or assignments. Nothing in these Terms or in your use of Quarry creates an employment, agency, partnership, or joint-venture relationship between you and Quarry, and you have no authority to act for Quarry.

4. Assumption of risk and release

Engaging with scammers is dangerous. Risks include malware, compromised devices or accounts, data loss, doxxing, threats, harassment, physical harm, emotional distress, financial loss, and legal consequences of your own conduct. You voluntarily assume these risks.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, you release Quarry and its officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, successors, and assigns from all claims arising from your interactions with scammers or other third parties. This release doesn’t cover claims arising from a security breach of our systems, our gross negligence or willful misconduct, or claims that can’t be waived by law. If you’re a California resident, you waive California Civil Code §1542, which says: “A general release does not extend to claims that the creditor or releasing party does not know or suspect to exist in his or her favor at the time of executing the release and that, if known by him or her, would have materially affected his or her settlement with the debtor or released party.”

5. Rules

You must not:

  • send money to scammers;
  • access any computer, device, or account without authorization;
  • impersonate police or officials, or claim to act for Quarry;
  • threaten, extort, or harass anyone;
  • use report data to publicly expose anyone;
  • submit reports to harm people you believe aren’t involved in scams;
  • interfere with Quarry, access it by automated means we haven’t approved, or upload malicious code; or
  • break the law.

We may limit or block any access to Quarry at our discretion.

6. Reports

Each time you submit a report, you confirm that:

  1. you, or personnel of your organization, took part in or witnessed the interactions, or you have permission from the person who did;
  2. it isn’t submitted at Quarry’s direction;
  3. you obtained it lawfully under the laws that apply to you;
  4. the evidence is genuine and accurately reflects the real interactions, not fabricated, edited, or generated or altered with AI, except redaction or cropping that only removes content (what you send to scammers is your choice, subject to the Rules above);
  5. it’s true to the best of your knowledge;
  6. it contains no child sexual exploitation material in any form, redacted or not, and all other sexual content is fully redacted; and
  7. you consent to our sharing it, including any of your details visible in it, with institutions and law enforcement as described in these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

If we find child sexual exploitation material, we’ll report it and your account information to NCMEC and law enforcement. We may remove reports that don’t meet these requirements.

7. License to your reports

You retain any ownership rights you have in your reports, and you confirm you have the rights needed to grant the license below. You grant Quarry a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, non-exclusive, transferable, sublicensable license to store, copy, modify, analyze, and share your reports to operate, provide, improve, and develop Quarry, including sharing them with institutions for compensation or otherwise. This license survives deletion of your account. To the extent permitted by law, you waive any moral rights in your reports.

8. Our rights

We may review, refuse, remove, or decline to share any report, and suspend or terminate any account, at any time for any reason. We may disclose information as described in our Privacy Policy, including to law enforcement when required by law or when we believe there’s illegal conduct. We may change or discontinue Quarry at any time. The Quarry website, software, guides, and content belong to us or our licensors; you may use them only as these Terms allow.

9. Feedback and copyright complaints

We may use any feedback you give us without obligation to you.

If you believe content on Quarry infringes your copyright, contact us with a description of the work, where it appears on Quarry, your contact details, and a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorized. We’ll respond as required by the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and may remove content and terminate repeat infringers.

10. Disclaimers

QUARRY IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.

11. Limitation of liability

TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE WON’T BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR LOST PROFITS OR DATA, AND OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS TOGETHER IS LIMITED TO $100.

12. Indemnity

Except to the extent prohibited by law, you’ll defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Quarry and its officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, successors, and assigns from any third-party claim, and related losses and costs (including reasonable attorneys’ fees), arising from your reports, your conduct, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right. We may control the defense of any such claim, and you’ll cooperate with it.

13. Termination

You may stop using Quarry and delete your account at any time. Sections 2 through 4, 6, 7, and 10 through 16 survive termination.

14. Disputes

  • Informal first. Before filing a claim, contact us and give us 30 days to resolve it.
  • Arbitration. Any dispute will be resolved by binding individual arbitration under the American Arbitration Association’s Consumer Arbitration Rules, available at adr.org (or, if the AAA is unavailable, under the rules of another arbitration provider we agree on or a court appoints), before a single neutral arbitrator, in Chicago, Illinois or remotely. Either party may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court.
  • Opt-out. You may opt out of arbitration by contacting us within 30 days of first accepting these Terms. Opting out doesn’t affect the rest of these Terms.
  • No class actions or jury trials. Claims may be brought only individually. If this class-action waiver is found unenforceable for a claim, that claim goes to court, not arbitration.
  • Time limit. Any claim must be brought within one year after it arises.
  • Governing law. These Terms are governed by Illinois law and the Federal Arbitration Act.

15. Changes

We may change these Terms by posting a new version and updating the date above. We’ll notify you of material changes. Each time you submit a report you accept the version of these Terms then in effect, and continuing to use Quarry after a change means you accept it.

16. General

You agree to receive communications from us electronically. These Terms and our Privacy Policy are the entire agreement between us. If any part is unenforceable, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing a right isn’t a waiver. We may assign these Terms in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets; you may not assign them without our consent. “Including” and “such as” mean “including without limitation.” No ambiguity will be construed against Quarry as the drafter.

If you’re a consumer in the EU or UK: nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can’t be limited by law; the release, limitation of liability, and dispute terms don’t take away rights your local consumer law gives you; and you may bring claims in your local courts.
